Oscars 2014 – Matthew McConaughey’s Acceptance Speech Is All Of God
I just had to share a piece of what I believe to be the highlight of the Oscars last night. Matthew McConaughey gave an acceptance speech that moved me to tears of appreciation… “First off, I want to thank God, because that’s who I look up to. He has graced my life with opportunities that I know are not of my hand or of any other human hand, He has shown me that it’s a scientific fact that gratitude reciprocates. In the words of the late Charlie Laughton who said, ‘When you’ve got God you’ve got a friend and that friend is you.’” I even learned something last night that will forever be imprinted in who I am as a Christian, as an individual and as the child that forever lives within that keeps me humbled and that is this as he said it best:
1. I need someone to look up to, something to look forward to and someone to chase.
2. I thank God first, last and always, This is who I too look up to. God is all about gratitude.
3. He wants to thank his family, who he looks forward to, his deceased father, he believes, is celebrating with a big pot of gumbo and a can of Miller Lite. His mother, still with us, taught him how to respect himself. (I thank each of you everyday because each of you are my family and the prize I have won goes deeper and higher than any earthly prize.)
AND THIS IS THE SOMETHING NEW…
4. The person most of us chase is a potential relationship; our husband or wife… the person he chases is himself, 10 years into the future. He knows he will never catch up, but he wants to find out who that guy will turn out to be.
In that moment I made a decision my “hero” is myself, the person I am chasing is my future self. I always say I choose to live my future today and I now also chase the person I will become in 10 years. This gives me the gratitude for all that I have been, for all that I am and for all that I have yet to become…
